Options for a Mobile Home Garage Add-On
There are three options for a mobile home garage addition:
- Attached Garage: A garage joined to the home by a roof and/or a shared wall.
- Detached Garage: A freestanding structure that is separate from the home.
- Carport: A simple roof to cover your car. A carport can be open or partially enclosed.
Should You Choose an Attached or Detached Mobile Home Garage Addition?
If you have a mobile or manufactured home, adding a detached garage is faster and easier than building an attached garage.
In particular, if you live in a trailer park with rules governing the use of your yard and mobile home, you’ll need to make sure you’re allowed to alter the mobile home with an attached addition. You’ll also need to make sure the attached garage won’t block one of the required exits.
A detached garage, on the other hand, can be placed anywhere you like on a gravel or concrete pad (or directly on the ground). A detached garage addition can be installed in one to two days, without any concerns about damaging your mobile home.
How Much Does It Cost to Add a Garage to a Manufactured Home?
The least expensive one-car metal garage will cost a little more than $4,000 if installed on an existing driveway. A prefabricated two-car garage will cost around $6,000 or more. Most garages cost much more than this. For example, if you opt for a custom-built attached garage, it will probably cost you at least $25,000.
If a garage is beyond your budget, you can find a metal carport for sale and have it installed for under $1,500 in some areas.
