How to Stop Metal Shed Condensation

Metal sheds are resilient structures that are great for storing all sorts of items and equipment. They’re especially good at protecting anything stored inside from natural elements, such as rain and snow. But what if the moisture is coming from inside?

Metal shed condensation is one of the most commonly reported problems with these storage structures. When the moisture found in warmer air connects with the cooler metal surface of the shed, condensation may form, creating a harmful and damp atmosphere. This can lead to problems such as rust, mildew, and mold. Fortunately, this can be prevented.

In order to prevent metal shed moisture inside, there are a couple of options. First, you can use a flooring moisture barrier when laying your concrete foundation. This will prevent moisture from the ground from rising through the foundation up to your metal shed.

Another option is to add more ventilation to your metal storage shed. You can add vents to the eaves of your shed or have electric exhaust fans installed to draw out the moist-laden air. This will significantly reduce the frequency of condensation build-up.

Adding insulation is another route you can take, but this works best when paired with one of the other options. Closed-cell polyurethane spray foam is an excellent way of both preventing moisture from seeping into your shed and reducing its contact with the metal surface of the interior walls.
