For a Metal Garage to accommodate a roll up style garage door, the leg height must be at least one foot taller than the garage door. See below examples:

’ wide x 6′ tall garage door needs 7’ legs

’ wide x 8’ tall garage door needs 9’ legs

’ wide x 8’ tall garage door needs 9’ legs

’ wide x 8’ tall garage door needs 9’ legs

’ wide x 10’ tall garage door needs 11’ legs

’ wide x 12’ tall garage door needs 14’ legs

’ wide x 14’ tall garage door needs 16’ legs

’ wide x 16’ tall garage door needs 18’ legs

Special Note: If you are purchasing a certified roll up style door, which are common in high wind zones like Florida and parts of North Carolina, you will always need additional clearance than stated above to accommodate the door. This is due to the oversized nature of the canister that holds the door.
